Ultimate Guide to Botox & Fillers

Botox/Xeomin is an injectable neuromodulator that temporarily relaxes facial muscles to soften the look of lines and wrinkles.Botox treats wrinkles created by repeated muscle movement. Botox can delay the formation of new lines. For preventive Botox, some people begin treatment in their mid-20s to early 30s. 96% of people say it's worth it!*

Juvéderm is a collection of five injectable fillers made with hyaluronic acid (HA). Each Juvéderm filler has its own properties, purpose, and longevity.Hyaluronic acid is a substance found naturally in the skin. It is frequently found in moisturizers because it has a unique capacity to retain water, which helps skin look plump and supple. When injected beneath the skin, the gel-like substance instantly helps to smooth lines and wrinkles, soften creases, enhance facial contours, and restore volume that’s been lost over time. 92% of people say its worth it!*

The Restylane line of injectable fillers temporarily adds volume to plump lips, lift cheeks, smooth wrinkles, fill in scars, etc. All Restylane fillers are made of hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance found naturally in the skin that holds and attracts water to help keep skin plump and hydrated. Allergic reactions are rare with HA fillers, so no pretesting is required. The area to be treated will be cleaned, and a numbing cream used to minimize discomfort. Restlyane is used to fill wrinkles and plump lips. It lasts 6-12 months depending on product used. 92% of people say its worth it!*

Pain Factor:

One of the most concerning aspects of cosmetic injectables is the pain factor. To start, Botox/Xeomin and Fillers use a very small gauge needle usually 27-32g. Most people do not require any numbing cream for Botox/Xeomin. When taken without a topical anesthetic it is compared to a \"bing sting\" and lasts a matter of seconds. Fillers usually use a larger needle because the product is thicker. A topical anesthetic is applied to minimize discomfort and ice packs applied immediately after. When filler is used with a topical anesthetic the needle feels like pressure, and there is some \"stinging\" when the filler is deposited under the skin. Addtionally, many fillers contain Lidocaine to minimize discomfort.

Botox/Xeomin cost can vary by provider. Some places charge per area injected. Be aware that people who advertise on Groupon "per area" may be tricking you. Max dose for the forehead is approx 20 units and most people do not get this dose, so you may be tricked into paying more per unit. The cost of fillers varies between product, how much, and longevity. Consumers will usually pay per syringe, so ask how many \"ml's\" you are purchasing. 1ml will give the best results, but some vendors sell 0.5ml and 1.5 ml syringes. Average price per syringe of Juvederm (1ml) is $750. Restylane average cost to fill facial lines and augment lips is $650 per syringe (1ml)
